Shalan, I love the rich stories behind your manuscript. I feel like you really thought about the meaning of it. I think your colors are great, the gold reminds me of the Book of Kells, and the sense of balance is really reminiscent of all the manuscripts we looked at. I think your illustrated capital is really well done.
Shalan, Your manuscript turned out really well! Like Jess said above, I love the story/meaning behind it all. My favorite part had to be the how you incorporated the cityscapes of everywhere you've lived into the border. The knot work on the tree and embellished capital were also really good. You can see a lot of other elements (color, spirals) that were also drawn from the Book of Kells.
This was awesome! It is so clear that you drew ideas such as knot work and spirals into your manuscript from other manuscripts. It really does remind me of the Book of Kells, especially the imagery seen in the Secret of Kells. My favorite aspects to yours are the knot work done on the tree, the cityscapes, and the waves. Also great work with the ruling pen! I know that had to have taken forever!
Your tree and S are AMAZING! I love them a lot. The knotwork in the S is crazy. It is clear you are very close to your family and the places you've come from, and I think that was a great way to summarize yourself to the class. I love the border on the carpet page, and it reminds me of the very bold, geometrical/key patterns in works we've studied in class. The skylines of the four cities you've lived was a neat way to further extend the story to the entire manuscript. Great job!
The knot work is ridiculously good in the tree. I like the celtic wave swirls, and the teepee letters. The coloration of the insides of certain letters in your name reminds me of the Book of Kells, this page hits right on the money http://feedingthepuppy.typepad.com/.a/6a00e550f497668834012876fed368970c-800wi. Colors are right on, reds, blues, gold, and green. The use of the cityscapes in the margins was also very clever, and is subtle enough to fit on the page. Very good, one of my favorites!
The colors on your manuscript are beautiful and the tree is really well thought out. I like that you incorporated the knot work into the tree. The curves on your S on the letter page and the knot work inside it reminded me of this letter from the Book of Kells. http://jonsullivan.com/images/ireland/it-kells-bg.jpg

That tree is so good, and so is the S!
